The five websites I believe to be nicely constructed are Microsoft.com, CNN.com, Foxsports.com, The Smithsonian Institute’s Website and CNet.com
For me a website to be nicely constructed should have the following criteria, a Clear Objective, the website should be simple, and can be navigated easily and also be organized and also proper use of graphics.
Microsoft.com
Microsoft.com is the official website for Microsoft Corporation. This website
contains extensive information about the company, for prospective invertors,
and other people. It also contains updates for its Software such as Operating
Systems, and Office Suites etc. Microsoft.com started in 1994; the entire site
was hosted on a single server that handled about a million hits a day. As the
Internet expanded, more and more groups at Microsoft began adding content to
the Web site. It does not have too many graphics, only when required. The organization
of the website is immaculate and it is simple and easy to use.
CNN.com
CNN.com is among the world's leaders in online news and information delivery.
Staffed 24 hours, seven days a week by a dedicated staff in CNN's world headquarters
in Atlanta, Georgia, and in bureaus worldwide, CNN.com relies heavily on CNN's
global team of almost 4,000 news professionals. CNN.com features the latest
multimedia technologies, from live video streaming to audio packages to searchable
archives of news features and background information. The site is updated continuously
throughout the day. CNN.com’s website is nicely constructed; graphics
are small and has different news versions for users in different countries.
Foxsports.com
FOX Networks web site is owned by FOX SPORTS online group. FOX operate this
Site and FOX primarily own materials on the Site. It also includes materials
owned by third parties and posted on the Site by virtue of a license, grant
or some other form of agreement between the third party and FOX. The sites been
created for users personal enjoyment, entertainment and education. Fox sports
provide comprehensive information about mid-west sports and also US and world
sports activities and results. Their website is designed nicely with proper
use of graphics and also is easy to navigate and has a clear objective, provide
sports information to its users as soon and easily as possible.
Smithsonian Institute
The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum complex and research
organization. Composed of 14 museums and the National Zoo in Washington, D.C.,
and 2 museums in New York City, the Smithsonian's exhibitions offer visitors
a glimpse into its vast collection numbering over 142 million objects. The Smithsonian
Institution website offers a lot of information about the current exhibitions,
events and tours. The website has a clear objective, which is to inform visitors
about its History and its current events. It is simple to use and offers easy
navigation. Its organization is excellent and use of graphics is commendable.
CNet.com
One of the best of the portal sites, CNET is a lavish commercial website that
offers a constantly changing banquet of computer industry and financial news,
product comparisons and reviews, genuinely useful tips and how-to articles,
and a-lot-of downloads. CNET Networks, Inc. is the leading global media company
informing and connecting the buyers, users and sellers of technology. By combining
an in-depth knowledge of the technology industry with the power of technology
itself, the company offers the most dynamic, relevant, and innovative media-based
marketplace for technology around the world. C|Net.com provides expert and unbiased
advice on technology products and services to inform users and expedite purchasing.
I like C|Net.com mainly because it has a clear objective, which is to be the
de-facto standard in providing information about technology and computers. Its
use of graphics is commendable. Its website requires certain knowledge of the
products you tend to search.
